The Havan & The Candle

USD 200

We came across this antique copper havan kund, a vessel traditionally used to hold the sacred fire. Copper has a long history in Indian ritual objects, with regional metalworking traditions spanning places such as Uttarakhand, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

The aged patina and simple, functional form of this piece were what drew us to it, carrying traces of a tradition in which everyday materials become part of something ceremonial.

We gave the havan kund a new purpose by turning it into a candle, filling its copper form with white wax. Colourful wax letters spelling out ‘Hot Spot’ bring a playful twist to the assembly.

A nod to the vessel’s original relationship with fire, the phrase takes on a new meaning here a hot spot for any room.
