The Fish & The Chain
This articulated brass fish is believed to be hand formed in Bellaguntha, Odisha, using a rare sheet-metal craft practiced by artisan families in the Ganjam region for generations.
Made from individually cut brass sheets joined with tiny rivets, its segmented body moves when suspended. The hand-cut details and warm patina preserve the original craftsmanship and reflect a lesser-known metalworking tradition.
For this piece, we wanted to keep the fish exactly as it is, highlighting what was already there rather than adding to it.
By suspending it from a vintage brass chain with Tibetan beads and pyrite stones, its articulated body is free to sway and ripple as it was designed to. Together, the chain and beads introduce a contemporary rhythm to the piece, allowing the movement, material and craftsmanship to work together as one.
